Running For Weight Loss

The results are not typical and vary by individual based on body and mind make up and effectiveness of the plan.Improvement in running ability has a direct impact on weight loss. Following are the factors that affect weight loss.

1. Starting weight: It is easier to quickly lose weight when the starting weight is on the higher side. For example, it is easier to quickly drop pounds when the target is to lose say 100 pounds over all.

If the target is to lose 7% of total weight it takes much longer. Typically losing the last 1 stone (14 pounds is the challenge)

2. Fitness level: Fitness levels and stamina increase with constant running. It increases endurance and helps you run faster. This in turn will improve the quality of running.

The final result will be an increase in metabolic rate and the burning of more calories. Improved running ability therefore translates to quicker weight loss.

3. Consistency: It is important to have a regular and consistent exercise regimen. This will get the body used to a particular pattern and will aid in increase in metabolic rate.

This will also train the body to expect challenges and improves fitness and endurance. This will thereafter result in weight loss. It is important to avoid frequent breaks in the exercise regimen. This will lead to slacking and inability to achieve weight loss goals.

Motivation: A lot depends on personal motivation and drive. So, get up and get motivated to start running and adopt a healthy lifestyle. It makes you feel fit and happy!

Social support:  Make use of exercising groups or networks to keep you motivated to stay fit. Elicit the help of friends and family in your fitness program. Better yet, see if you can find a running buddy, someone who can join you everyday while running. This helps you keep up with the program, not to mention the moral support gained in the process.
