Proteins and their Importance
Many nutrients are required in a diet to make it balanced and healthy. Every nutrient has its own importance and role in the body.
One such nutrient is proteins, without which the diet is incomplete. Protein is one of the most important nutrients in one’s diet. It is very essential for the proper growth and state of nails, tissues, skin, and hair, as well as teeth.
Apart from this, it performs various important functions in the body which are very essential for the well-being of the body.
The hemoglobin molecule, which makes blood red, is almost all protein. The fraction of protein or globin is about 95 %. This makes it very essential to take protein supplements in the case of the deficiency of proteins in the body.
Proteins can be put into two broad categories – structural proteins and functional proteins. Muscles, bone, hair, nails, skin, blood and even connective tissues form structural proteins.
However, functional proteins are very important for the hormones, digestive enzymes and antibodies. Amino acids, which form the long chains of building blocks in the body, are made of proteins.
There are about 20 amino acids, which include 12 non-essential amino acids and 8 essential amino acids.Meat and vegetables are rich source of proteins.
The correct proportion of proteins is very essential for the body, where a low quantity of proteins can be harmful for the body, but even a high content of protein in the body can have a negative effect on the body.
Eating large quantity of fish, meat, eggs and chicken can harm the body. This can result in the formation of acidic ketone bodies. This is a very dangerous state which is termed ketosis.
If ketosis is a continuous state, then a person cannot live long because this state leads to nausea and this in turn limits the intake of food stuffs. Therefore, in order to maintain a balance and healthy body, the right amount of proteins is necessary. Keep this in mind: whereas a right amount of proteins helps to achieve a healthy body, its deficiency or excess can have a very negative impact on the body.
