You must have seen and experienced the constant running of mothers behind their children with a glass full of milk and with loads of assurance of its health benefits. While as a kid we might have often neglected our mother’s healthy advice, milk is one important food item which every person whether young or old should have so as to attain a healthy and a happy life. This is because milk is considered as a complete and an ideal food which is full with essential nutrients required for the healthy development of a person.

We all are aware that milk is the one of the main sources of calcium which helps in the strong formation of bones and teeth and thus prevents problems like osteoporosis, arthritis and other bone related disorders. However, along with being an excellent source of calcium, milk is also rich in other important nutrients and minerals which are required for the overall health of a person. The calcium provided through milk also aids in optimum nerve functioning, muscles contraction and blood clotting along with assisting in healthy bones maintenance. Along with calcium, milk is also rich in other minerals like phosphorus, sodium and potassium. While potassium helps in regulating the body’s fluid balance and blood pressure, phosphorus helps in generating energy in body’s cells and also aids in the strengthening of bones.

Along with minerals, milk is rich in essential vitamins like Vitamin A, thiamine, riboflavin and nicotinic acid. However, it is a poor source of vitamin C and E. Moreover, milk is also a source of protein which helps in proper brain development along with aiding in the growth of body tissues. Since milk contains about 85% of water, it also fulfills the fluid demand of the body. Milk is thus an important and a vital food item which can take care of the entire well being of a person due to its high nutrient value. However, there are some essential nutrients like iron, Vitamin C and E which are missing in milk and thus one needs to take care of including other items also in one’s diet to attain a healthy life.
