Myths about bottled water vs. tap water

March 13, 2009

Myth 1: bottled water is better than tap water.

It is not necessary that everything is true which advertises the mineral water bottles as flowing right through the volcanoes and are drawn from the snowflakes. The come from rather common sources like municipal water supply. They are filtered and not bad but they are not better than the water we filter ourselves and have.

Myth 2: purified water has better taste

Fact is that the distilled water which is thought to be the purest does not have any taste because the minerals like sodium, calcium, magnesium and chlorides which gives the flavour to the water is removed in the purification process. But the tap water sometimes tastes flat because of chlorine and it can be removed by keeping the bottle in fridge overnight, it tastes better.

Myth 3: bottled water contains vitamins, minerals or protein which makes it healthier than regular water

The addition of extra things into water is all for marketing. This is a fact that the materials which are used as additives serve much too less for health. The use of sugar and such materials can add calories instead. Tap water provides more fluoride to the body which proves it is better than the bottled water.

Myth 4: body needs 8 ounce of water per day

Medical science recommends 91 ounces of fluid per day for a woman. These 91 ounces are not expected to be gained from water only but 80% of it should come from water, juice, tea coffee and other beverages and the rest from food.

Myth 5: bottled water is best after working out

If the work out session is longer the body water and electrolytes as potassium, sodium are wasted which needs to be replaced. Regular water is fine for their replacement if water is is clean.

Myth 6: bottles are environment friendly as they are recyclable

70 million water bottles can be recycled per day of production but about 86 percent still goes to trash.
