Mantra meditation
A Mantra is a group of words when chanted have the power to affect our mind and psyche. It basically affects the whole consciousness. Mantra is usually handed by a Guru, but the practitioner can also pick the mantra of choice. Prerequisite for selection of a mantra is that, when spoken, it should divert the mind completely.
Mantras are preferred in today’s meditation, but it is imperative to understand the benefits as well as side-effects properly. While chanting a mantra, the words or phrases of the mantra gain new meaning when the mantra is repeated. The effect is such that gradually, you achieve a new state of consciousness. Its attainment is really soul-awakening when combined with meditation.
It is well known that an abacus or rosary was actually introduced by the ancient Hindus. The Arabs followed the similar technique from us and taught it to many others religions. The mantra incantation was originally initiated as a health practice.
Mantra Meditation aims at dragging the mind through an anchor to bring it back on a path. The mantra, when chanted with the help of a Japa Mala or string of beads in hand, helps in directing back the thoughts as they go out of control. This is why mantra meditation is one of the most favored forms of meditation for beginners.
Mantra incantation creates powerful vibes that is directed to specific “chakras” to attract divine forces. This process is very effective in healing the spiritual, physical and psychological bodies. It is essential that while chanting a mantra the practitioner should surrender himself / herself to the experience.
It is the best part that there are no side effects to the practice of mantra meditation. Moreover, you have healing effect. But you should practice it regularly to maximize the benefit.
