October 21, 2009
Why is cholesterol dangerous?
Excess Cholesterol in the blood is a dangerous situation which needs to be remedied immediately. Increase in cholesterol and increase in LDL is a much more serious situation. This has to be remedied immediately. Uncontrolled cholesterol and LDL could result in a heart attack.
1. Use of the medicine ‘Statins’: To remedy the situation, the doctors normally prescribe ‘statins’. It is estimated that within a year, nearly 40% of those taking Statins stop taking them.
The reasons why patients stop taking statins are cost and the side effects of the medicine. But many doctors dismiss the theory of side effects. The side effects of this medicine are pain, memory loss and muscular weakness.
But the doctors tell the patients that the pain/discomfort of the patients is just imaginary or the problem is associated with age.
2. Traditional Chinese method: Many of the prescription drugs have some or the other side effect. The side effect is redressed by another prescription drug. So continues the process.
It is true in the case of the drug ‘Statins’ also. Researchers have found that Red Yeast Rice, which is being used in China since a very long time has the cure or the remedy to lower cholesterol and LDL.
This natural remedy is also known to cure diseases connected with spleen, indigestion and diarrhea. Several studies have been conducted in this regard since the year 1970 and the studies have proved that Red Yeast Rice is very helpful in lowering Cholesterol and LDL.
The studies have been conducted on people with high cholesterol. These tests were conducted in China and the results were published in the American Journal of Cardiology and in many other reputed journals.
The report said Red Yeast Rice was administered on about 5000 people with high cholesterol and the results showed that heart attack or heart related diseases in these persons reduced significantly.
However, researchers suggest that Red Yeast Rice should not be taken with ‘Statin’ drug. Those with high cholesterol and LDL are advised not to take grape fruit juice along with red yeast rice.
This is because while taking the supplement medicine, if grape juice is also taken, it is likely to reduce the level of CoQ10. The researchers further suggest that while taking red yeast rice about 100 to 200 mg of CoQ10 should be taken as a vitamin supplement. This supplement is available in many health stores.
