The main drawback of this particular diet is that it does not result in long term weight loss, it does not have the elements of nutrition and it does include the essential vitamins and minerals. In spite of its drawbacks, this diet is followed by many people because it is very affordable and not at all complicated.
Many people are looking for a weight loss dietary plan that results in a quick permanent weight loss. This purpose has made the low carb diet very popular. The basic key in this particular diet is to control the level of energy obtained and released by carbohydrates.
The main source of energy for the body is carbohydrates. There are groups of carbohydrates: Simple carbohydrates, like common sugars in honey and syrups, and complex carbohydrates, which are in whole grains, bread, etc. Simple carbohydrates, with the exception of fructose, are absorbed very fast in the blood stream as compared to complex carbohydrates. So the main source of energy is the simple carbohydrates.
A low carb diet insists the body to use fasts as the source of energy. By this process, the stored water is removed from the body, resulting in weight loss. Initially in this dietary plan, weight loss is more because of loss of excess water. Some considerations should be made before starting this type of diet.
All the parts of the body cannot use fat as a source of energy. For example, the brain uses glucose as the main source of energy. Very low level of carbohydrates can produce Ketones and the body can enter a state of Ketosis.
Therefore, a check should be kept that the level of carbohydrates do not fall much. This diet should be complemented with exercise to reduce muscle wastage. A low carb diet is not well balanced as it avoids fruits and stresses an intake of higher levels of proteins.
Therefore because of the negative effects of this type of diet one should get fully aware of the pros and cons of this diet to before actually implementing this diet on you. You better consult a doctor or a medical advisor before adopting this dietary plan.
