lowcarbfoodsIf you are following a low carbohydrate diet it is advised that you stick to low carbohydrate recipes when preparing your meals, even though it is not an actual requirement.

If you are aware of which foods you can eat and which you must avoid, you should be able to maintain your diet. If you regularly eat fried foods or fast food then your challenge will be to break your bad habits and discipline yourself.  You must become accustomed to your low carbohydrate diet.

If you take the time to do your research you will find many low carb and low fat foods that taste good and are healthier diet options.

You don’t have to sacrifice taste for your health! Below are some handy hints on how to prepare a tasty meal that is also low in carbohydrates.

Be careful with your seasonings and make sure they are not full of harmful chemicals or fats.  A barbecued piece of fish or meat is an ideal meal.  Grilling melts down the harmful fats in proteins.   Barbecue sauce is low carb and is also generally diabetic friendly.

. Opt for fish and meat products that have not been cured with nitrates. The curing process wherein seasonings and preservatives are added could add more carbohydrates to the meat. Fish is usually naturally low in carbohydrates, but several fish seasonings contain unnecessary carbohydrates. Nitrates not only add carbohydrates but are also considered carcinogens.

Include foods high in fiber in your diet such as vegetables.  Vegetables have high fiber content and are low in carbohydrates. Other options include flax seeds, cauliflower, spinach and broccoli.

Almost all foods can be included in your diet provided they are not full of preservatives and are eaten in moderation.  Items like cheese are processed further by manufacturers to filter out carbohydrates.

Almost every cheese contains some form of carbohydrate, but the processed ones carry a significantly lower amount. While you can select these food options, it is always better to follow an all-natural diet.  It is cheaper and easier.

Diets like the South Beach Diet usually prescribe low carbohydrate foods in their daily diet.  If you need to check on the suitability of a food type before including it in your diet, check the prescribed food list of the diet.  Whatever is listed on the food list is allowed.
