Let Your Children Stay Away From Processed Foods
The recent study conducted by the Director David S. Ludwig of children’s Hospital at Boston has come out with the conclusion that children are at high risk of liver disease caused by processed foods. And as per his advice, one must think twice before picking up such foods and serving them to children.
How the research seems authentic is that they experimented on mice. They divided mice into two groups and fed them same calorie foods and differing in starches.
They fed one group processed high glycemic index foods and on the other hand they fed the second group unprocessed low glycemic index foods. Now you must be curious to know what this glycemic has to do with children’s health. Well, the reason is that glycemic index is the measure that tells how fast food releases glucose from starch and if this GI is high, faster the food will produce glucose. Your insulin will be released more due to the rapid release of glucose and there by making your body to store more fats.
This is what exactly they found in both the groups of mice. The end result of the research study was that the group which was fed with HGI stored more fats than the group that was fed with LGI foods.
Some of the High Glycemic Index foods are such as white rice, white flour and processed grains. LGI foods are such as all the fresh fruits and vegetables. Children must not be fed with foods that are made from HGI, rather encourage them to go for more of LGI foods.
Liver disease was common in older people but now there is contradictory news that even children are getting this disease equally. Liver cirrhosis is growing faster in children and this is solely due to increase consumption of processed foods which are made of HGI. Your children’s health is in your hand if taken proper precaution you could have healthy kids at home.
