Leanest Meat in Your Diet
In a healthy diet, there should be the right kind of meat so that you can have a healthy life. One of the most difficult things about meat is how to choose the right cuts of meat. Meat is one of the high calorie and high fat foods. It is not always easy to know which parts of meat are leanest when you get to the butchers shop.
Cook with lean meat only
During cooking, it is easier to choose the lean cuts for healthy dishes. Adding a high fat pork chop to your food can sabotage an otherwise good and low fat dish. Adding meat to a diet does not necessarily make it unhealthy. Meat provides energy and protein which is needed for muscle building.
Proper examination
If you want to make sure that the meat you are buying is lean, then you must examine it properly and if necessary have the additional fat trimmed off. This process is relatively simpler if the grocery shop has its own butcher. The butchers are usually happy to show the different kinds of cuts available and to trim them to the customer’s specification. But the process is difficult where meat is pre-packaged.
Trim it yourself
For that reason, addition trimming may be needed after buying meat because meat is normally packaged to hide the fat. So no matter where the meat was bought, it is important to have it trimmed before cooking. Removing the fat from meat makes you prepare healthy meals.
Some low fat meat:
Poultry
It is easy to shop for poultry because most poultry products like chicken and turkey are low fat. There are other poultry products such as duck and goose that are high fat, but these are not regularly served in most homes. But the biggest problem of poultry is the amount of fat added by chicken and turkey skin. If you cannot afford the skinless variety, you can remove the skin yourself.
Seafood
The next source of low fat protein is seafood. But salmon is an exception to this because salmon is fatty. However, compared to meat, salmon is far better. Most kinds of fish are lean and therefore very healthy to eat. Fish contains very high amounts of protein but is low in calories.
