Jump Rope Workout

If you are looking for that little something extra to add to your workout, try jumping rope. Yes, believe it or not, jumping rope will give you a great cardio workout. It will give every muscle in your body a great workout including your abs. Your core won’t know what hit it.

It is important to wear the proper attire for this type of workout in order to prevent injury. You need to wear the right type of shoes for starters. You need something that will give you support, such as cross trainers, basketball or even tennis shoes. Do not wear running shoes as they will not give your feet enough support.

Where you jump is also important. You need to be on a surface that is cushioned. Concrete can cause you injury and unnecessary pain. If you do not have a carpeted floor or other soft surface, purchase a mat that you can jump on. You need to have spring in your step for this to work the right way.

Jumping rope is a great form of High Intensity Training. The purpose of this is for you to incorporate the rope with other exercises as well. To get you started, you want to be where you can see a timer or a clock. A timer is the best idea so you won’t need to watch the clock constantly. To warm up, jump rope for 3 minutes. After a quick 30 second rest, for the next 60 seconds, jump rope as fast as you can. After another 30 second rest, do crunches for 1 minute, jump rope for 60 seconds, rest for 30 seconds and then push- ups for one minute.

This routine should be repeated for 15 to 20 minutes to get the full effect. The total workout should last 30 minutes for a full cardio workout. The crunches and the push-ups can be alternated with skipping. If the push-ups are too much for you in the beginning, try an exercise that is more comfortable for you such as lunges or squats.

Remember to stretch before working out so that you can have a great workout. This will help to prevent injury to your calves and back muscles. Above all, have fun with your new workout routine.
