Irregular Menstrual Period

January 14, 2009

The one time of the month that most women dread is during their period. This can be made even more stressful and tiring when your period is irregular. You may wonder what is considered as an irregular period. This is when you have heavier than normal bleeding, the time between your periods is off or even if you have bleeding in between two cycles just to name a few.

If you find that you experience this often, it can be caused from many different things in your lifestyle. The one thing that seems to be the biggest culprit is a hormonal imbalance. Another issue could be  if you are just starting to get your period. It could take months and possibly years for your system to get regular.

There are many other issues that can cause an irregular period such as your eating habits. These include too much fast food, not eating regularly and especially if you have eating disorder such as bulimia or anorexia. Excessive exercising and prescription or recreational drugs are also a problem causing issue. If you have a routine in your life and you deviate from it, you could be stressing out your body as well.

Your mental state also plays a big role in how your body reacts. Your emotions, such as stress or anxiety can have a big affect on your cycle as well. Don’t rule out being sick, whether physically or emotionally and your sexual habits play a role as well.

Many of the reasons that you have an irregular period can be corrected. But, this can also be the sign of other more serious issues that you may have to see your doctor for. This could actually be the sign for tumors, endometriosis and even possibly uterine fibroids.

Your irregularity could either be long term or sudden and short term. Paying a visit to your physician may be able to help you get things regulated and back on track. There are even some herbs and vitamins that may be able to help. If you are having these issues, be sure to get an exam to make sure that it is not a sign of anything more serious.
