Important Things to Know About Teenager Fitness

More and more the concerns for the fitness of our youth are growing more serous.  With increased technology, the activity and health of our teens seems be declining. Bed time hours have changed over the years so our teenagers are staying up later and later and rising later and later.

It is now very common for teens to grab foods that are popular or quick and easy rather than reaching for healthy foods with a high nutrition quality.  Most of the foods that are advertised seem attractive but are not good for the body.

Alcohol is becoming more prevalent amongst our teens today.  Unfortunately, many are emerging with drinking problems and eating disorders.  Obesity is running rampant.

A Few Ideas for Healthier Living

Meal Planning

The more important foods to avoid are the confectionary.  Sugar not only promotes the decay of the teeth, but sweet treats will slow the system and cause numerous problems.  Teenagers should eat only small amounts of sweets.

Also, fats should form only a small part of their food.  There are certain fats and certain amounts of fat that the body does need daily.  All fats are either saturated or non-saturated.  Saturated fats are from animal and are heavy and unhealthy for the body.  The oils from vegetables are unsaturated fats and are low in calories and do provide helpful things to the body like energy.  Crackers and baked goods, especially fried foods will contain trans-fat.  This needs to be avoided completely.

There is a lot of controversy over the consumption of proteins but they should really be consumed in a moderate proportion of the daily diet.

By all means, include generous portions of vegetables, especially in a raw form and fresh fruit.  This will provide vitamins and essential minerals the body needs, especially young bodies that are still forming.

As a general rule of thumb, half of the daily food consumption should be of complex carbs that come from brown rice, whole grain cereal and wheat bread.  Dairy should account for about one third of the overall intake of food and the rest from the fats that are good for the body.

Regular exercise along with a proper amount of sleep will help your teen grow into a very happy and healthy adult.
