Immune System Boosting Foods

There are certain foods that are of great benefit to your immune system. They contain certain organic minerals and compounds that can help boost your immune system. Eating just enough of theses immune boosting foods will reduce the number of times you have to see the doctor. When your immune system works well, you will be in good health. Consider the following foods.

Garlic
Eating garlic will strengthen the immune system to fight viral, bacterial and sometimes fungal infections. Garlic is the source of allicin, thiosulfinates and ojoene. These are three substances that are very powerful in checking and fighting infections. They are so powerful that they could be compared to Neosporin which is used to disinfect minor cuts and wounds. It can also be applied raw to fight athlete’s foot just like Tinactin. You can add some garlic to your food. You can also eat garlic raw.

Carrots
Carrots contain the substance called beta carotene. This substance is a powerful phytonutrients that boosts the immune system’s ability to produce infection fighting T cells which attack and kill microbes that enter the body. Carrots are best eaten raw. However; cooked carrots are also good but some of the nutrients are destroyed by the heat of cooking.

Oysters
Oysters are a good source of zinc which is one of the substances which boost the immune system. This mineral helps the white blood cells and other antibodies to multiply quickly and makes them more aggressive to fight infections. Zinc stimulates some 100 enzymes and it is a vital element for general functioning of cells. Oysters are also libido boosters. Eating a few oysters weekly will give you a good store of zinc. Caution! Too much zinc in your system may be toxic. Excess zinc suppresses absorption of iron and copper leading to anaemia.

Yogurt
There are certain bacteria that the body needs to be healthy. These bacteria will fight other bacteria like salmonella and shigella which are dangerous for the body. Yogurt is a good source of some of these bacteria such as lactobacillus acidophilus. These bacteria produce lactic acid which aids food digestion. Eating yogurts will give you a culture of these bacteria.

Some foods are not just foods but medicine that will prevent you from taking other dreaded medicines.
