How to Get Off the Couch and Start Exercising
Everybody talks about a program that they started following to get their ideal body but these stories seldom have a happy ending.
Follow these ten steps before even getting off the couch:
1. Research – Do not believe everything that acquaintances have to say about exercise and educate yourself.
2. Choose something you enjoy – If you do not enjoy the great outdoors, complete your routine inside with some dumbbells or join a group exercise class. The more you enjoy the exercise, the more likely you will make it a habit.
3. Make a list of daily changes to aid activity – Small changes such as walking up stairs or parking further from work will increase your heart rate and metabolic rate, which will encourage fat burning.
4. Make a list of daily changes to eating plan – Examine the details of what goes into your mouth on a daily basis and eliminate the unhealthy snack or extra sugar in small steps.
5. Put these lists on the fridge with a timetable to follow – Keep these changes visible and exercise on certain days at regular intervals with a break every second day or so, depending on your goals.
6. Choose one long-term goal that is 6 months to a year in the future – This is the banner over the finish line that you strive towards, but it should be a lifelong change such as losing body fat, increasing muscle tone or changing bad habits.
7. Choose short-term goals and leave space to write in dates achieved – These small goals along the way renew the drive to get to the big goal.
8. Devise punishment for cheating – Small punishments for missing a workout include doing a hated chore such as washing the car or walking to the shop.
9. Share this plan with somebody special and communicate your goals – Sharing your goal with an attentive listener will encourage you and may even get you a training partner.
10. Move to the next article and get off the couch.
