How To Get A Healthy Smile – Sparkling White Teeth

December 12, 2008

A smile is said to be very infectious. If you smile at someone, they are more often than not sure to smile back at you. A smile can light up the person’s face. A smile can make you look beautiful and at the same time, it can make you look not so good.

History says that human beings have always been careful to take care of their teeth, be it with a historical tree branch toothbrush or be it the modern toothbrush.

Why do we need to take care of our teeth?

Teeth are an important part of our digestive system. They are the first point of contact for the food that goes into our stomach. We can swallow the food with the help of our teeth because they chew, grind and tear it to make it easier to swallow. Just like looking at the nails of a person, he can be judged healthy or not, looking at the teeth can also tell a lot about your health.

If you do not clean your teeth, debris and bacteria will build up on your teeth forming plaque. Plaque causes tooth decay. Apart from loosing your wonderful sparkling smile, it will cause you a lot of pain too. In addition, you might not be able to enjoy your food as much with an aching tooth.

How can we get a healthy smile?

Remember what your mother used to say when you were a child. Brush your teeth at least twice a day. This is a known fact but not many people put it into practise. But you should brush your teeth in circular motion. This will remove any sugar or plaque on the teeth. To remove the plaque from between the teeth and gums, you can floss before sleeping.

Fluoride kills bacteria and hence prevents tooth decay. Therefore, use a fluoride based toothpaste.

Bacteria feed on the sugar that is deposited on the teeth and thereby causing tooth decay. So rinse your mouth after eating sugary foods.

If you have lost your tooth, take it in a glass of milk or saliva to the dentist within an hour where it can be re-implanted into your mouth.

You should never ignore toothaches. Consult your dentist immediately.
