How safe is it to drink Soda?

November 30, 2009

drinksodaStudies have revealed that there has been a steady increase in the consumption of Soda. Researchers have found that presently, on an average the per annum consumption of Soda of an individual in America is about 43 gallons.

They have found that continued consumption of Soda has some effects on the health of the person. Brief details of the different chemicals present in soda and their effect on human body are given here:

Sugar:

Soda contains Fructose or corn syrup in large quantity. Some brands of Soda contain Aspartame which is a substitute for sugar. The interesting fact is that sugar in any form has many side effects on the human body.

Phosphoric Acid:

This is yet another major composition of Soda. Studies have shown that Phosphoric Acid causes accumulation of stones in the kidney. This is because this acid absorbs Magnesium and Calcium that are present in the blood as well as in the cells.

As a result, enough calcium is not supplied to the body. Low level of calcium causes weakness of bones and leads to Osteoporosis. Deficiency of Magnesium causes High Blood Pressure. In some cases it may cause fatigue.

Caffeine:

Some call Caffeine an invigorator. They argue that a cup of coffee in the morning invigorates them to be back into action. But most people forget that this is a temporary phenomenon.

They also forget the serious side effects of Caffeine present in every sip of coffee they drink. This Caffeine is also present in sufficient quantity in Soda.

Those who consume Coffee and Soda are in high danger zone of side effects caused by Caffeine. Because Caffeine is present in both Coffee and Soda and by consuming these two drinks, intake of Caffeine just doubles, this causes serious health problems. The health problems normally caused by Caffeine include fatigue and agitation, irritation in the stomach, low sugar level, low blood pressure.

Some people have Soda as part of their routine diet. Some feel it is a good beverage. But unfortunately most of the people are not aware of the serious side effects caused by Soda. It is therefore advisable that consumption of Soda should be reduced. Those who regularly drink coffee should think twice before they consume Soda.
