How important is Thyroid gland in the body function?
Thyroid Gland is one of the very important glands in the human body. Situated at the base of the throat, it monitors the movement of hormones throughout the body and plays a vital role in maintaining the body temperature, etc.
What if it does not function well?
Unfortunately, this gland is not free from malfunctioning. Deficiencies of Iodine, stress, radiation, exposure to toxic materials, etc. are some of the reasons for the ailments caused to this gland. Any malfunction of this ‘butterfly shaped’ gland will cause serious health problems.
It can cause dysfunction of many other organs of the human body. Such is the importance of this organ. The ailments that normally affect the Thyroid Gland are Hypothyroidism (under active thyroid) and Hyperthyroidism (Over active Thyroid) which cause enlargement of this gland causing ailment called ‘Goiter’.
Treatment:
Many prescription drugs are available to cure the ailments of Thyroid Gland. Apart from oral prescriptions; surgery, radiation, synthetic hormones are the other options open. But most of these methods have serious side effects.
This is one of the delicate organs in the human body. Recognizing its importance, many holistic medicines like the Ayurveda (the traditional Indian system of medicines based on herbs and other natural products) and the traditional Chinese system of medicines have found many herbal medicines which have proved their effectiveness since centuries. These herbal medicines do not have any side effects. No surgeries are involved in this line of treatment.
Apart from these herbal treatments, there are some treatments suggested by herbalists and naturopaths. They work on the principle of ‘body’s own healing and balancing capacity’ and this resulting in body’s self healing character.
They advocate use of herbs in combination with some other herbs to treat certain ailment. They say that nature has given us the medicines in the form of herbs and by proper use of these herbs, any ailment can be cured.
For example, they suggest use of Green Oats and Makandi to cure hypothyroidism. For hyperthyroidism; Lemon balm, Motherwort and Bugleweed are helpful. They suggest use of organic food against processed food.
They even suggest use of natural coconut oil or olive oil against processed cooking oil as the best remedy to cure problems connected with Thyroid Gland. Because, by this method the digestion power of the body will improve.
They suggest some changes in the regular diet so that the body will cure the ailments on its own and by this method medicines will not be required to cure some of the ailments.
