Healthy Summer Smoothies

Summer is the hottest season of the year, so be sure you keep yourself cool and refreshing. Smoothies are a summer favorite, as they are cool, creamy and refresh you.
It is easy to run down to your neighborhood smoothie shop and buy your favorite smoothie. But why spend money for those made in shops, which might not be fresh or nutritious, when you can make healthy summer smoothies at home which are full of vitamins and also nutritious.
A guide for healthy summer smoothies:
1. Smoothies which are made with the right ingredients contain fruits, vitamins and antioxidants. These are powerful nutrients which keep you refreshed though the hot summer days.
2. Save money and buy seasonal fruits. It would be difficult to decide which fruits are seasonal, but select fruits that are tasty and cost less during the summer. Summer fruits include, bananas, blueberries, cantaloupe, figs, grapes, kiwifruit, lemon, mangos, peaches, persimmons, plums, strawberries and water melons.
3. Try to reduce calories. By making small portions of smoothies at home, you will intake less calories and at the same time stay refreshed.
Healthy summer smoothie recipe, for healthy eating:
Strawberry Mojito
Blend together1 cup strawberries, 1 cup ice, chopped mint leaves and some limeade concentrate. This recipe is considered as the ‘star’ of smoothies.
Blueberries citrus
This is a perfect combination for a cool summer drink.
Blend together 1 cup blueberries, ½ cup ice, two table spoon orange juice, 1 tablespoon lemon juice. 6 oz vanilla yoghurt and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract.
Plush peach
This smoothie leaves you ‘peachy’.
Blend together 1 cup peaches, 6 oz yoghurt, ½ cup ice, ½ a banana, some cinnamon, and you can add honey also.
Lemonade smoothie
Blend together 1 cup lemonade, a cup of low-fat lemon yoghurt, some ice and 1 ½ cup of raspberries.
Chocolate raspberry treat
Blend together, ¾ cup chocolate Soya milk, 1 ¼ cup raspberries, ½ a banana sliced and add to this mixture 3/4 cup chocolate sorbet, and two tablespoon chopped mint.
Having smoothies during summer are liked by adults and children. Even children who don’t like fruits love to have smoothies. Make it fun for them!!! Ask them to press the blender and help you pour into glasses. They will love doing it and having it…..and you can be assured that they have had their intake of nutrition for the day.
