It is suggested by a finding that a couple can have a healthy and satisfying sex life till the age of 70s and 80s. Many aged Americans are seemingly taking advantage of that fact. It has been estimated that about 68 percent of men between 57 and 85 and 42 percent of women indulged in sex last year. More number of older women wanted to have sex, but there were not enough older men for them to partner with.
Good Health is the prerequisite to have a satisfying sexual health rather than aging. A decline in sexuality is due to the ailments but old age is no barrier to have sex. Sexual problems may appear before diabetes and high blood pressure. It has been emphasized by the researchers that it is illness and medications that make a difference in sex lives.
It has been estimated that other aspects influencing a satisfying sex life includes a sexually transmitted disease, some physical problems, mental health issues or relationship difficulties. The research involved findings of sex life of almost 1,550 women and 1,455 men between the ages of 57 and 85. All of them participated in the National Social Life, Health and Aging Project.
Some of the major findings of the study include: Sexually transmitted disease (STD) results in sexual pain in woman, and lubrication problems. Sexually transmitted disease in men is associated with the risk of finding sex unpleasant. In older men and women, a common problem is sexual dysfunction and lessened interest due to urinary tract syndrome. Aged women and men also reported that health issues affected their interest in sex. Relationship troubles also contributed to a lack of interest in sex and the inability to achieve orgasm in men as well as in women.
Drinking alcohol enhances a women interest and pleasure from sex. Alcohol was not able to effect men.
