Become a slow eater
The first and most important of all tips is that decrease the speed at which you eat. If you are someone that gobbles up all that is on your plate in the blink of an eye, then you are sure to be struggling with some weight issues as well.
The reason is that it requires some time for your brain to realise that your stomach does not need any more food, 10 minutes at the least. Therefore, if you manage to finish up before your brain realises that you are already full, you will tend to stuff in much more than you need to.
Therefore, take time to gradually chew your meals rather than swallow them.
Work to have another serving
This is one more interesting method to discourage you from eating more. Instead of putting all the serving dishes on the dining table, let them remain standing on the kitchen counter. This way if you want a second helping, you will have to get up and get it. It is more difficult to reach and requires effort. It will give some time so that you might change your mind about the second serving, altogether.
Do not do multitasking
Eat only while you are eating. Avoid watching TV or doing anything else when you are eating. These are distractions that will prevent you from realising what and how much you are eating. So, eat only at the dining table.
You are not required to empty your plate clean
This was an old rule that has stayed on with us and tends to cause many problems. The simple thing to do is to listen to your body. If you feel full and your plate is not empty yet, then avoid trying to finishing it.
