Healthy 4 Life – 12 Powerful Foods For Weight Loss And Health

The major goal for people who decide to lose weight is good health. Your diet- that is what you eat – plays an important role in both weight loss and good health. If you include these 12 powerful foods in your diet on a regular basis, you will build lean muscle, burn fat and limit the amount of fat the body stores. There are additional nutritional benefits that are listed with each food.

1.  Nuts
– contain protein, fibre, monounsaturated fat, vitamin E, magnesium. Nuts help to fight obesity, heart disease and cancer. Avoid highly salted and smoked varieties. Almonds are the king of nuts.

2.  Legumes – kidney beans, chickpeas, lentils, dried peas, soybeans – contain protein, fibre, folate and iron. They help to fight obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, colon cancer. Avoid canned baked beans and refried beans.

3.  Leafy green vegetables – contain a cocktail of vitamins including A, K, C; beta-carotene, folate, fiber, calcium, magnesium, iron. Help fight osteoporosis, cancer, stroke, heart disease and obesity.

4.  Colored vegetables
– contain a variety of vitamins and minerals which help to keep the body functioning correctly. Include a variety of colors in each meal, as they all contain slightly different vitamins etc. Broccoli is the king of veggies.

5. Dairy products – contain calcium, protein, vitamins B12, A, potassium, phosphorous. Help fight obesity, osteoporosis, cancer, high blood pressure. Avoid full cream milk and flavored products that are high in sugar.

6.  Oatmeal, rolled oats – contains soluble fiber, complex carbohydrate. Help fight diabetes, heart disease, obesity, high cholesterol, colon cancer.

7.  Eggs
– contain protein, vitamin B12, A. Help fight obesity. Help build lean muscle.

8.  Lean meat – contains protein, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, iron, vitamins B12, B6, niacin, potassium, phosphorus. Helps fight heart disease, obesity, memory loss, depression, anxiety. Helps build lean muscle.

9.  Fish
– similar to lean meat. (see above) High in omega-3.

11. Wholegrains
– wheat, corn, barley, oats, rye – contain protein, fiber, riboflavin, thiamine, niacin, calcium, potassium, zinc, magnesium, vitamin E. Help fight cancer, high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease. Choose wholegrain bread, pasta, bran and wheatgerm products.

12. Berries and fruits – contain fibre, antioxidants, pectin, vitamin C. Help fight obesity, cancer, heart disease. Blueberries are the king of berries and fruits.
