Green Tea Extract – The Health Benefits
Green tea is made from the tender unfermented tea leaves. It is rich in antioxidants. These are called polyohenols. Since green tea is prepared by steam treatment to the leaves, they retain most of their antioxidant properties.
Green tea has several uses. It was traditionally believed to relieve flatulence. It is also known for its diuretic properties. It is known to be beneficial to health. It is also regarded as a stimulant since it contains about 15 % caffeine. It is also beneficial to increase mental alertness and digestion.
More modern research has confirmed the traditional uses and has also come up with a list of health benefits that green tea has to offer. Following are some of the health benefits that green tea has to offer:
Prevention of cancer: Green tea prevents cancer on account of the antioxidant properties that they possess. Polyphenols containing catechins are the chief cause of this benefit. They prevent and protect against cancer by inhibiting the growth of cancer cells and inactivating the oxidants.
Controlling cholesterol levels: Green tea lowers cholesterol levels. They help to increase the good cholesterol levels. They achieve this by eliminating the cholesterol from the body and prevent it from getting absorbed.
Glucose levels: Green tea helps to control blood sugar levels. It regulates the glucose in the body to achieve this end. This property was used even traditionally and is not only a new revelation.
Atherosclerosis prevention: Green tea suppresses oxidation of the bad cholesterol. As a result, there is no fat build up seen in the arteries. This promotes heart health and prevents blood clots and other such risks. The blood vessels relax and heart health improves.
Liver Protection: Green tea is believed to have an effect in promoting liver health by regulating its functioning.
Green tea steps up metabolism and helps to burn fat. It is therefore a beverage of choice for dieters who are on the look out for losing weight.
Boosts immune system: Green tea boosts the Gamma Delta T cells and helps the body fight infections. This in turn positively affects the immune system.
2 to 3 cups of green tea per day will greatly benefit everyone!
