Good fat
We regard all fats as bad. But there are some good fats too. There should be some fat in what we eat to protect ourselves from disease. There are some fatty acids like omega 3 which are essential, as they cannot be formed by the body. They have to be supplied through our food. We can have that either from plants or fish. They are present in pure vegetable oils, beans, sardines, salmon and tuna. Fish oil has readily available EPA and DHA that are necessary for good health of a person. The omega 3 which we obtain from plants is alpha-linolenic acid found in flax seed and walnut oils. They need to be broken down by the body into EPA and DHA to have their benefits. Flax seed is a good alternative source of omega 3 for vegetarians who cannot eat fish as flax seed has the highest concentration of omega 3 in plants.
Bad fat
The harmful fats are saturated fats and trans fats. They are bad for heart and blood vessels. They increase the levels of cholesterol in the body. They lead to arteriosclerosis. They affect the production of hormones and functioning of arteries. They may cause inflammation, lead to cancer and adversely affect the immunity system of the body. They should not be part of a healthy diet. They are found almost everywhere. You can check out the labels of food items for hydrogenation.
Economic and healthy diet
A healthier diet does not necessarily mean a costlier one. There are many tips at your disposal to have an economic and healthy diet. You can stock up fish when the price is low. A whole fish always costs less than chunks of fish.
Be extremely cautious when you are looking for flax seed. Not all shops sell flax seed at the same price. Consider the usage of supplements that are cheap and easily consumable.
You can stock up a bunch of walnuts when they are cheap. Walnuts have good fats in abundance. You can use coupons. Go through the newspapers for them.
