Get Six Pack Abs

buildabsGetting six pack abs will take a lot of patience and perseverance. With a good exercise routine and a proper diet, you can get that rippled abdomen. You will likely be training other parts of your body too but the abdominals are one place you can spot train.

The abdominal muscles are part of what they call the ‘core’. The core muscles include the abs, the buttocks, back, and thighs. Building your core muscle strength has many advantages.  It not only helps you look great, it improves your posture and helps prevent injury.

The first exercise is the abdominal crunch. There are many different ways to do crunches. The basic way is to lie on the floor with your knees bent, put your hands behind your head and lift your upper body to your knees. Cupping your head will protect your neck.  Pretend that there is a grape fruit under your chin so you do not hyperextend your neck.

Oblique abdominal crunches are great for the sides of your abdomen. Follow the instructions above except turn your torso to each opposite knee.

Leg lifts are another ab buster. Lie on the floor and lift your legs to a 90 degree angle.  Lift your head and shoulders by grasping the back of your head. Take a breath in and lower your legs than bring them back to starting position and repeat.

Jackknife sit-ups are another exercise and are a little more difficult. Again, you extend your legs but you can bend them a little. You lift your legs and head and shoulders to meet at the center and then repeat.

V sit-ups are similar to jackknife sit-ups but you do not bend your knees. You start with your hands behind your head. You lift your legs and trunk to meet each other balancing on your tailbone and then repeat.

The plank is a static hold position. You can either do them in a push up position where you hold the pushup position. Or you can do them with your arms folded so you are resting on your forearms and the rest of your body is in a plank position.

These are just a few of the numerous abdominal exercises. Pay attention to your diet.  The exercises will not work if you overeat, especially junk food. If you need to lose weight choose a sensible low calorie diet.
