Gestational Diabetes Diet for Pregnant Ladies

Presently, many youngsters become the victim of diabetes, but the exact statistics of the prevalence of diabetes in pregnant women is yet unknown. Still, a diet is necessary for the ones suffering from gestational diabetes.

When the body fails to produce required insulin or the insulin does not function properly, the blood sugar level increases. It is detrimental to not only the mother, but it also affects the newborn baby, if it happens at the time of pregnancy.

Thus, to stay away from this, you are required to have the appropriate amount of carbohydrates, fats and proteins at the time of pregnancy.

The abnormal blood sugar levels possess gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), a glucose intolerance, which affects a woman during the time of pregnancy. This mainly happens after 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Women having GDM are likely to suffer from complications at the time of pregnancy. They might experience pre-mature labor, cesarean baby and abortion too, in worst cases.

It is essential to control the blood sugars to stay away from gestational diabetes. A mother requires a diet regulation, in case she has gestational diabetes. Adjust this diet requirement in accordance to the mother’s Body Mass Index (BMI).

The diet of a pregnant woman affected by this sort of diabetes must consist of 40 % carbohydrate, 20 % protein and 40 % fat. You can obviously keep the gestational diabetes under control by following a proper diet.

You are required to take three meals a day and eat snacks in the mid-day for at least twice a day. When you go to bed, have small snacks so that your blood sugar level remains normal during night.

Always keep in mind that you must never bypass any meals or snacks. You must always have your food on time. Evenly spread your food, so that you have your food on regular basis every three hours.

You should also take your food in accordance with what your dietician asks you. Stay away from beverages and tinned food. Also, try to take diet rich in fiber content. Fibrous diet will aid you to stay away from gestational diabetes.
