Foods to Avoid while Dieting
Magazines, television shows and movies show tall, lean women and strong, muscular men. Our society has become fixated on weight and now everyone is jumping on the weight-loss bandwagon. While it is important to maintain a healthy body weight, you must do so with the proper combination of exercise and diet. When you decide to take part in a diet plan, it is important to look at the food you eat and decide what can continue to be part of your diet and what should be eliminated. A healthy diet should reduce the amount of body fat that you have while adding necessary nutrients. It is not easy to be on a diet. You may be teased by previous junk foods that you have enjoyed; foods that have no nutritional value but just taste so good. It is necessary to avoid these foods. What are the foods that you should avoid while on a diet plan? Read on.
Sugar should be avoided while on a diet. Sugar comes in many forms. It can be simple sugars that are found in soda, candy and fruit juices. Sugars can also come in the form of simple carbohydrates. Things such as white bread, baked goods, pasta, and rice are simple carbohydrates. Carbohydrates provide the body with quick energy. Any carbohydrates that are not used by the body are converted into sugar. These sugars are then stored by the body in the form of fat. If exercise is limited, the fat is not used up; it just accumulates. So, avoid any simple carbohydrates and simple sugars as they hold little nutritional value because their combination of vitamins, minerals and fiber has been stripped from them. Also avoid fast foods and processed foods. These foods are high in hydrogenated fats, saturated fats and sodium. The foods that you should avoid have little nutritional value and are often known as empty calories.
Replace all of these junk foods with healthy alternatives. The next time you are craving something sweet, grab some sweet fresh fruit like berries. If you need something crunchy to snack on at night, carrots and celery are fulfilling.
