Foods Causing Acidity
Even though we may love some of our favorite foods, they may not love us. Heartburn not only causes discomfort, but, in some cases it can be down right painful. Especially at night when you are trying to get that good night’s rest but the pain just won’t seem to ease up.
If heartburn occurs too often, it can cause more damage than just being annoying. It can also cause damage to the esophageal lining. This is from acid reflux disease. Many things can cause heartburn besides just certain foods and asthma is one of them. You need to be aware of foods that can be harmful and what you can do so that you can continue to enjoy the good life.
You are at the company’s Christmas party and drinking away with everyone else. Beware, as the alcohol that you are consuming may come back to get you later once you put the glass down. If you are a wine drinker, red wine is the worst. But, if you like whiskey, beer or even a shot of vodka, you may be in for a late night treat. Even though you may not want to hear this, add some water to the glass. It will reduce your risk of heartburn.
Some people also say that spicy food will bring on the heartburn. It is not so much the spices but the ingredients in the food. Tomatoes, peppers and onions are the culprit. You can also count on foods with a high acidic content to contribute as well. I’m sure you know what we are talking about. Oranges, lemons and of course, the almighty grapefruit are healthy for us but can take their toll.
Another culprit is the all American cheeseburger. This is considered to be a fatty food and fatty foods are a great heartburn inducer, which, unfortunately, also includes heavy sauces such as your favorite spaghetti sauce.
For some, caffeine is also a trigger. If you find that your coffee is leaving you distressed then you may want to change your morning ritual. Antacids can help but if you find that heartburn is more frequent than not, see your doctor and he can help.
