Foods and Cholesterol
The food we consume and cholesterol level in our diet directly impacts the cholesterol level in the body and consequently in blood stream. It is essential to maintain the optimum level over the course of your lifetime. If the cholesterol level rises in blood, indicates some immediate changes are required in the food you eat and the other habits you follow. The optimum level of cholesterol is vital to be maintained to aid the normal functioning of heart. The lipid profile of the blood should be investigated to know the different cholesterols in the body.
We should start analyzing what kind of food should be followed as a regular diet and what contents of the foods should be avoided to control cholesterol problem.
Before you start monitoring your cholesterol by changing the items of food, you should know the differences between bad cholesterol and good cholesterol. Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance found in our body cells. We all need an optimum level of cholesterol within our bodies form cell membranes and various hormones. But when the cholesterol level rises it starts blocking the arteries carrying blood which can lead to heart attacks and strokes.
All fruits and vegetable are rich source of vitamins and can actually help in lowering cholesterol. Fruits, such as, apples, oranges, and apricots and vegetables, like cabbage and sweet potatoes do not contain cholesterol, moreover they are rich in soluble fiber and pectin.
Oats & Grains
Oats and grains are rich in fiber and help in lowering cholesterol. Doctors recommend two to four cups of oat or barley cereal every day to lower the cholesterol.
Cholesterol lowering foods are easily accessible and can be included in our diets.
Poor dietary habits and lack of exercise, and genetics can lead to cholesterol problems. So, one should develop healthy eating habit
