Feeling low, tired and depressed? If yes, then just get into your kitchen and munch at certain food items as it has been found that foods can actually help in elevating a person’s mood thereby helping in bringing him out of depression. While most of us associate food only with the physical requirement of the body, certain food items can have a healthy effect on one’s emotional and psychological self also. Thus, if you are facing with the emotional problem of depression, then try changing your dietary habit before moving in for pills and medication.

If you are feeling low, then try eating nuts, bananas, poultry and milk before going to bed as these items help in the subsiding of depression. Similarly, foods containing Vitamin B and Tryptophan are considered as beneficial for the treatment of emotional upheavals as these nutrients get converted into a neuro-transmitter, Serotonin, which is considered as a mood enhancer. Serotonin is also popularly known as “Smiling Serotonin” as it helps in brightening up a person’s mood. Thus one should consume food items like chocolates, bananas, meat, whole grain pasta, fish, peanuts and milk as these items are rich in Tryptophan which helps in inducing a smile in everyone’s face. Other nutrients which can enlighten up one’s mood include zinc, selenium, calcium, Vitamin D, iron and magnesium. Eating fresh raw fruits and vegetables, strawberries, kiwis, blackcurrants, bananas, soya beans, nuts, eggs and others can all help in keeping one in high spirits.

While a healthy diet can help in lifting up of one’s spirits, there are also certain food items which can actually lead to the problem of depression. Thus, to remain happy forever, one should avoid the consumption of food and drinks which contain aspartamine. Thus, along with ensuring to eat a happy and a healthy diet, one should avoid consumption of certain food items which can actually make us feel low and depressed.
