Fitness Testing

There are a number of fitness testing methodologies, which an individual can undergo to monitor the strength and capacity of the body. Sometimes it is dependent on the age and the gender. Aerobic fitness is a check of blood capacity to transport oxygen around the body. It also measures how effectively your muscles utilize the oxygen.

Aerobic endurance is a measure of an individual’s aerobic fitness capacity that is his or her capability to indulge in prolonged exercise without exhaustion. Anaerobic training of high strength and shorter duration helps in measuring the efficiency of the anaerobic energy producing systems of the body. Anaerobic threshold is the moment during exercise when lactic acid starts accumulating in the muscle tissues.

Basal metabolic rate is the lowest rate of energy usage that is indispensable for survival. It is calculated after a sound night sleep in a laboratory. It requires most favorable conditions of peacefulness, rest and relaxation.

Body mass index is estimated by an individual’s height and mass. It is a count of total body fat content. Electrocardiogram (ECG) is monitoring the electrical activity of heart by keeping wires on the chest.

Endurance is the capability of the body to exercise with negligible fatigue. It is also known as endurance training, muscular endurance and cardio respiratory endurance.
Heart rate is a measure of the pumping done by the heart. It is a count of the number of beats per minute.

Maximal exercise test is a test done until volitional fatigue occurs. Maximal oxygen uptake is the utmost capacity for oxygen intake by the body during highest exercise. It is also called as aerobic power or maximal oxygen consumption. It is universally used as a measure of aerobic fitness. The ratio of the carbon dioxide produced to the amount of oxygen consumed in the body is known as Respiratory Exchange Ratio.
