Something that works really well for those who suffer from PMS symptoms such as irritability, bloating, breast tenderness, and slight depression is evening primrose oil.

This oil consists of about 72% of linoleic acid (called LA for short) and roughly 9% of gamma linoleic acid (known as GLA). Evening primrose oil is a fatty acid that belongs to the w6 family.

Anyone who cannot translate linoleic acid in to gamma linoleic acid should take evening primrose, which is one reason that many glorify its contents. Delta -6-desaturase, which is an enzyme, is necessary for this conversion to begin. It is also necessary to obtain the derivatives of w3 family of fatty acids.

However, if you are finding this conversion a problem because of issues with the enzyme, then it might be better to take black current seed oil rather than evening primrose oil.

Anyone who has high levels of cholesterol, mono unsaturated or saturated long chains of fatty acids, Tran’s fats, alcohol, viral infections, zinc deficiency, and diabetes may have problems converting linoleic acid in to gamma linoleic acid.

Minerals like magnesium, zinc, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin C are all required for this conversion. If you think you do not have a well balanced diet, make sure you take a multi vitamin tablet, which will provide each of these minerals and vitamins.

Benefits of Evening Primrose Oil

The benefits of evening primrose oil are countless. Those who suffer from diabetes in particular can reap many benefits including needing lesser amounts of insulin and bringing the fat metabolism to normal levels.

It also helps to lessen and heal eczema, decrease the escalation of Multiple Sclerosis and stop damage caused to the liver by alcohol. Not only does it help with wounds to the saliva glands, it also helps when it dries out.

One thing to remember though is that if you take say 1g of evening primrose oil, then in order for it to be effective, you also have to take 3g of fish oil or flax, which contain w3. However, this will also depend on how much of w3 and w6 you already have in your system.
