Effects of Training Addiction

Exercising is very good because of the many benefits that are derived from it. But too much of it can lead to what is called training addiction. This might sound funny but it is real. If training addiction is not quickly addressed, it can degenerate into overtraining syndrome with eating disorders and an unbalanced lifestyle.

What causes training addiction?
The first cause is related to childhood experiences. People who were overweight during their childhood grow up to still think of themselves like that, no matter how they look today. They therefore want to do something to correct the wrong image.

The second cause of training addiction is a complex. People think that by training hard and having great bodies will make them better than others. They get so much worked out into this that they turn to abuse exercising leading to addiction.

Unbalanced lifestyle
One major effect of training addiction is unbalanced lifestyle. Those addicted to training start putting it ahead of other things such as work, friends and family. Some will even refuse to eat or see friends until they are satisfied that they had done enough exercising during the day. They leave other aspects of life and get hooked to training. It is common for such people to turn down dates, avoid social situations, get isolated and feel depressed because they must train and be like what they think is great.

Injuries
Because the body is not given enough time to rest, it does not properly recover from previous work outs before new ones. This increases the risk of serious injuries. The muscle tissues break down more and more leading to slow metabolism.

The paradox in this is that constant lifting and pushing wears down the muscles thus negating the gain that is desired. Vanity. Psychological problems like depression might set in as a result.

Remedy
Just stop and check yourself. Ask why you are doing this to yourself. You must make a list of all other aspects of your life you are ignoring and make a plan to get back to them. Seek a professional’s advice.
