Do Healthy Energy Drinks Exist?
You can’t walk into a grocery store or gas station without running head first into a display of some sort of energy drink. If that isn’t enough to convince you of their popularity just look at a group of teens; chances are that at least a third of them are drinking some sort of energy drink. The question is do energy drinks actually work and how healthy are they?
What are healthy energy drinks?
Energy drinks do boost the drinker’s energy. The manufacturer makes sure of that by adding a significant amount of a legal stimulant, like sugar, ginseng, caffeine, l-carnitine, etc. Some energy drinks, the ones that use nutrients instead of chemical stimulants, are called healthy energy drinks.
Selecting a healthy energy drink
When selecting an energy drink you want to make sure that you pick the healthiest energy drink possible. Look for a drink with one or more of the following ingredients: l-carnitine, Vitamin B, taurine, ginseng, antioxidants, or Ginkgo Biloba.
One of the mistakes that many people make is in thinking that as long as they drink healthy energy drinks they don’t have to drink water. The truth is that there is no substitute for water. The other mistake that many people make is thinking that all energy drinks are suitable for all athletic endeavors.
The best way to determine if the energy drink is suitable for your activity is to read the label. Most manufacturers will list the type of activities that the drink is suitable for. Some will say that they are good for strenuous activities, like sports. Other healthy energy drinks are designed to get you through the day and help melt away your stress.
Drink wisely
Don’t get the idea that a healthy energy drink would make a good alcohol mixer. It won’t. The whole point of drinking an energy drink is to gain energy. Alcohol is a depressant. The only thing that combining the two will achieve is to confuse your body.
When used properly, healthy energy drinks can help boost your metabolism and ease some of your stress. Make sure you don’t use energy drinks, not even healthy energy drinks, as an antidote for not sleeping or to make up for an unhealthy diet. You need to make sure you are using healthy energy drinks responsibly.
