Different Ways to Weight Train

April 10, 2009

weighttrain1Weight training is a popular form of strength training designed to build the body’s muscles.  Strength training is the general category that is made up of weight training and other forms of training that increase muscle size.

There are differences between weight training and other forms of strength training regarding the increase in muscle volume, bone density, ligament and tendon strength, muscle tone, flexibility, metabolic rate, and posture.

The Difference between Weight Training and Resistance Training
Resistance training uses equipments such as hydraulic resistance or elastic bands and focuses on the contraction of the different muscles.

With weight training the muscle feels resistance at the beginning of the exercise motion.  When performing a weight training exercise, at first the joint angle is emphasized and then the resistance takes place.

In hydraulic resistance training, the resistance is dependent on the speed that the movement occurs.  With elastic resistance training, the most resistance comes at the end of the motion when the elastic band is fully stretched.

The Difference between Weight Training and Isometric Training
Isometric training uses a steady amount of resistance.  It is dependent on the force that is exerted by the muscles.

The muscles increase in strength at the angle joint when performing isometric exercises.  In comparison, with weight training, the muscles grow in strength during the full range of motion.

The Difference between Weight Training and Body Building
Weight training and body building are quite similar but there is one primary difference.  Body builders build their muscle mass by consuming the least amount of fat during the time that they are competing.

Those that practice weight training do not focus on minimizing their body fat.  Instead, they focus on building muscle strength and anabolic stamina.

You should select the type of strength training workout you want to perform based on your physical goals.
