Diet Information For Colitis
Colitis is a chronic digestive disease. It occurs due to inflammation of colon. This disease causes the intestine to from ulcers and become flamed, scattered and easy to bleed. The most common symptoms are fatigue, fever, cramping and abdominal pain. A healthy and nutritious colitis diet is necessary for patient. Following is the diet information for colitis that benefits the patient most.
Colitis Diet- diet plays an important part in the treatment of colitis.
• Patient should drink plenty of water or fluids to prevent body from dehydrated and constipation.
• Take small bites while eating and chew the food properly.
• Eat only when your body needs food. Don’t eat just because you want to eat.
• Try to take a variety of food in your diet plan as it will provide you different nourishments. Add whole grain, fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and low calorie dairy products in your food.
• Avoid caffeine and alcohol as it intensifies the situation by stimulating diarrhea.
• Don’t stop eating anything because of the fear of pain regarding diarrhea as it will give way to floating and pain as you eat after along time.
• Don’t eat too much at one time, you can eat after gaps.
• Eat high nourishing food as you can choose protein rich food. You can eat fish, egg.
• Don’t eat food that has too much fat. Avoid eating butter, margarine, vegetable oil, processed snakes, meats, fast food and fried food may trigger abdominal symptom. The reason behind this is eating such food may lead to malabsorption in the body.
• Prefer to eat those items which are low gas producing such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, dry cheese, onion and chives and you can also choose pepper.
• If small intestine is resected an injection of vitamin b12 is required.
• Avoid lactose containing food such as dairy if you are lactose intolerance if you don’t you may have lactase enzymes and lactase pretreated food.
• During a flare up, however it is high fiber food or follows a low fiber diet or even a low residue diet to give the bowler a rest and minimize symptoms.
• Take a ripe banana everyday, it should be blend, smooth, easily digestible or slightly laxative, it promotes the healing process.
• Take one glass of coconut water everyday as it is soothing to the soft mucosa of the colon.
