Diet for Teenagers

Diet for teenagers is becoming an important question of relevance in today’s world as teenage time is a time of growth and development and thus one requires a well balanced and a nutritious diet to ensure a healthy growth. While some teenagers, particularly girls, tend to neglect their diet in a craze for size zero, some teenagers tend to overeat and become obese due to unhealthy eating habits. Thus, taking care of teenage diet becomes really important to ensure that the person develops into a healthy and a fit human being with minimal risks of diseases and ailments.

To ensure the healthy growth of teenagers into adults with high endurance level and strength, one needs to indulge in a well balanced and a nutritious diet. During teenage and adolescence time, the body requires additional calorie intake to make up for the energy which is required in the active life of teenagers. To cope with the high energy requirements, one should increase one’s intake of cereals and pulses. Including nuts and dried fruits in one’s diet can be a healthy option but one should strictly avoid the use of junk food which can lead to the problem of obesity. Moreover, a teenager’s diet should have adequate amount of calcium in it which is required for the healthy development of bones along with providing protection from various bone related disorders in the subsequent years.

A teenager’s diet needs to be tailor made according to their body requirements. Thus, it needs to have adequate amount of iron which can be provided through intake of green vegetables, sprouts, raisins and dates amongst others. Intake of food items containing iron is a must for teenage girls due to their hormonal changes and body constitution. Moreover, a teenager’s diet should also consist of a proper protein intake to lead to optimum and healthy development. In short, a healthy and a well balanced diet during teenage time can prove effective in the healthy development of a person.
