Diet for a Healthy Heart

To have a happy and a healthy heart, one has to develop healthy eating habits by consuming foods which are low in salt content, saturated fat and cholesterol. Heart diseases can be fatal and can suddenly throw a happy life into the abyss of darkness. Thus, one should take extra care and protection to protect one’s heart and the primary need demands that one has a nutritious and a healthy diet to ensure the overall health of one’s heart. It has been found that by consuming food items which are low in calories, fat and sodium and high in fiber can help in lowering one’s chances of developing heart related disorders.

Fats like saturated fats and trans fat found particularly in animal foods like meat, milk, cheese and butter can increase the chances of heart related disorders. Thus, one should avoid such food items along with avoiding high intake of sodium to keep one’s blood pressure under check. Instead of saturated fat, one should consume a diet which is high in monounsaturated fats like olive oil, canola oil and seafood. In addition, one should eat plenty of grain products, fruits and vegetables. Eating a high fiber diet helps in keeping one’s weight under check as overweight people are more at risk of heart problems. To have a healthy heart, one needs to keep one’s weight under check which can be done only by staying away from tempting but harmful products like sweets, desserts, fried foods and other fatty and high calorie food items.

Diet and exercise go hand in hand and thus to attain maximum benefits of a healthy diet, one should indulge in daily exercises which can be simple yet effective ones like walking, swimming or cycling. This not only helps in the maintenance of an optimum weight, but also aids in an improvement in blood circulation thereby aiding in the overall health of the body.
