Dehydration: Causes and Symptoms
Dehydration is a state of body when you feel lack of water in your body.
Dehydration can be explained as excessive loss of water from the body. It has become the major problem in a self limited illness. Excess loss of water from boy sometimes proves dangerous for the body.
Our body needs sufficient amount of water everyday. That is the reason why all physicians and fitness experts suggests to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water everyday. If we take in less or lose more fluid than is needed, the end result is dehydration. Some of causes and symptoms of dehydration are mentioned below:
Causes:
• Excessive loss of water from the body
• Extreme hot weather
• Increase in exercise as it may lead to over heat of the body
• Any digestive problem
• Any surgery or illness to the stomach
• Diarrhea or vomiting
• Drinking too much of alcohol
• Excess blood loss of the body
• Malnutrition
• Decrease in oral liquid intake
• Medication can lead to lose of fluid from the body
• Eating excessive amount of salt
• Prefer soft drinks, alcohols, coffee and tea in place of fluids
• Diabetics
Symptoms:
• Rapid loss in weight
• Weakness
• Dry skin
• Dry mouth
• Headache
• Low blood pressure
• Crying without tears
• If infants stay at least four hours without wet diapers
• Sunken eyes
• In adults, dark urine
• Nausea and vomiting
• Inability to urinate
• Increase thirst
• If nails blend or turns white
• Normal breathing, heart and pulse rate but warm extremities
• Soft spot on the top of head
• Skin may lack the normal elasticity
• Shock
• Tired and stiff-jointed
• Cramps
• Blue lips
• Pain in joints
• Rapid and weak pulse
• Cold hand and feet
• Disinterest in drinking fluids
• Feeling hot on neck and head
• Lack of sweating
