Dangers of Energy Drinks

Energy drinks are beverages like Pepsi, Coca Cola, Mountain Dew and other drinks which have high amount of sugar combined with soda water, these drinks contain large amount of caffeine, ephedrine, guarana and ginseng, taurine. Energy drinks may contain about 78 mg of caffeine, which is equivalent to a cup of coffee.

These energy drinks are marketed to people above the age of 18 and are very popular in school and college campus. There are several dangers of energy drinks it all depends on the amount of consumption of energy drinks. Energy drinks stimulating properties can increase heart rate and blood pressure, dehydrate body and in some cases where consumption is very high these drinks can affect sleep also.
Energy drinks should not be consumed during exercises ,as they contain large amount of caffeine which can leave the user severely dehydrated. Energy drinks should not consumed in large quantities, small amount will not harm the body, but in any case they should not be seen as natural alternatives.

Some energy drinks claim that they improve performance and concentration, but these statements are misleading as consumption of caffeine will result in poor concentration. There are other hidden dangers of energy drinks like increase in body weight, as these drinks contain large amount of sugar and carbohydrate, which will result in gaining extra body weight, which can result in obesity.

These days mixing alcohol with energy drinks is becoming quite popular, many studies have shown that mixing powerful stimulant like energy drink, with powerful depressant alcohol can lead to many health problems; this mixture can have deadly effects on your body, and if consumed in large quantity it can result into death also.

Energy drinks are very dangerous for children and for pregnant women also. These drinks can result into low birth weight babies, especially if these drinks are consumed in the first three months of pregnancy.
