Cutting Christmas Calories
Here comes Christmas and it is also time for all the unwanted weight that you have been keeping off all year. However, do not worry because you will have a chance to celebrate this Christmas with all the healthy alternatives listed here.
Try a skinless white meat turkey instead of roasted ham.
It is true that ham seems to be too good a choice to replace. However, skinless turkey will offer a good alternative to this salty fattening dish.
Baked salmon is healthier than roasted duck.
Duck comes with a lot of fat and calories, especially if it is in a rich sauce. This year, try baked salmon, apart from being low in calories; it is rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which help in fighting heart disease.
Holiday nog is better than the traditional egg nog.
Egg yolks, sugar and milk together make up for food that should not be consumed. Holiday nog will give you the calcium minus the fat.
Angel food cake is the angel this year, so chuck the Pecan pie away.
Let the angel fruitcake with fresh fruit topping be enough to satisfy your sweet tooth. Do not go for the Pecan pie.
Baked sweet potato is the healthy alternative to candied sweet potatoes.
Sweet potato is a healthy choice in itself, so why spoil it by smothering it in candy. Go for the healthier baked option.
Prefer a fruit salad to a fruitcake
If you want to eat fruit, then why not go for the real thing. This year try the fresh fruit salad instead of a sticky fruitcake.
Have some box stuffing instead of homemade stuffing this Christmas.
Whatever you put inside the turkey will absorb its fat. Therefore, if you are so keen on eating the stuffing, eat it but not from the turkey’s inside. Pick box stuffing.
Whole wheat to white dinner roll, make the switch.
Whole wheat is always better than white, whether it is bread or buns or dinner rolls.
Have an animal cracker instead of a shortbread cookie.
Animal crackers have almost nil fat per cookie. Shortbread cookies are loaded with butter, so might as well avoid them.
Informed with all these alternatives, make a healthy choice this year.
