Choosing The Right Diet For Weight Loss

January 5, 2009

In developed countries, obesity is an ever increasing problem. There is only one answer if you want to stay slim and lose weight: you need to eat healthy and adopt it as a part of your life, not just make it a temporary part.

Besides eating healthy, you should also include extra physical activities in your daily routine. This works best, as it is tried and tested.

Quick fix diets: It has been found that people on a diet gain their lost weight again as soon as they start eating. Most of the people gain even more that what they had lost. Instant weight loss programs are no doubt seductive, but it’s true that miracles do not happen. Instant weight loss diets are short termed and impractical. Most of these quick diets are in the form of milkshakes, and contain a variety of nutrients, but they have major disadvantages.

Yo-yo diets: There are diets that do provide a gradual weight loss, but again in a short period of time, which is unrealistic. This results in instant weight gain as soon as these diets are stopped. One tends to gain the lost weight again after stopping the diet. This loss and gain cycle strains the heart and increases the risk of heart diseases and cancer. In young girls, it effects menstruation.

Clubs:
The aim of these slimming clubs is to help change the eating behavior. They provide advice and support while one loses weight.

Portion control: The market is now flooded with ready to eat low calorie meals, which are quite popular. They are low calorie foods, as they are in very small portions. And if people eat a lot of them, then they are of no use. But still one can accompany them with salads and fruits.

Physical activity: This is the most useful tool of losing weight. An increase in physical activity also increases the metabolism.

•    One should try to include simple activities in their routines and exercise for 30 minutes every day.

•    Walking is the best one can do.

•    The pace of walking should be such that it leaves you slightly out of breath.

•    Use stairs instead of the lift.

•    Biking is also a very good exercise. You can go on a bike or just use an exercise bike.

Remember, it’s up to you to choose your diet. But keep in mind the calories. Don’t get lured by the quick lose diets, as they are short term. Eat healthy and exercise daily to maintain a long-term and healthy body.
