portionsizesIt is now a common phenomenon that when you go to any eating place, restaurant, fast food joint, etc; you will be offered what is called a bigger version of what you want to buy.

It does not come for free – you pay for it. What it means is that the amount of food that people eat at a go has increased, and keeps increasing over the years.

The amount of food that used to be considered as a normal portion 20 years ago has gone up about 40 percent or more. What experts are saying about this is that the amount of extra calories that come with this is about 50 percent.

What the experts also found out was that, in most of the cases, the nutritional information provided for these foods are underestimations of what actually is their value. This makes the whole issue of healthy eating complex; and has become a problem young people of today find difficult to deal with.

But there is something positive. The amount of salad dressing that goes with the salad eaten today has gone down. That means that the nutritional value of the salad eaten is being preserved.
The question then is how we can lose weight in the face of all these.

Listen to your body signals

If we want to lose weight, we will have to pay attention to the signals that our bodies give about hunger. When the body is no longer hungry we should know it.

This means that we have to eat slowly, while paying attention to the signals we receive about hunger. This will make you even enjoy the food more. This strategy helps during parties because you give the impression to the one who cooked the food that you are enjoying it.

Measure your food

If you are the one cooking, you can measure the food and put it onto a small plate. This gives you a full plate. The thing is that a full plate means a full stomach, no matter how small the plate is. If you measure things, you get to know what a normal portion is for you.

Eat frequent meals

Eat frequent small meals to remove the psychological feeling of eating a lot at a time. When you do this, you will not have to overeat since you know in a short while you will eat again. This will also boost your metabolism.
