Breech Exercises
When a baby is breeched, it is positioned backwards, instead of the head being pointed towards the woman’s cervix; the feet are nearest the cervix. When a baby is positioned this way it is unable to be born naturally.
The good news is that there are exercises the birth mother can do, that will help rotate the baby back into its proper position.
Breech Tilt Exercise
The most popular breech exercise is called the breech tilt exercise. Before you can do the breech tilt exercise you need to take a wide board and prop one end against your couch and the other end should be on the floor, when you are done the board should be at a 45 degree angle.
Once the board is in position, you need to balance your body on the board, your head should be near the floor and your feet should be raised above your head. You want to stay in this position for twenty minutes and do the exercise at least two times a day. Lying in this position will encourage your baby to rotate. While you are hanging upside down you should close your eyes, breathe deeply, and try to picture your baby rotating into the proper position.
Before you start this exercise make sure you have someone to spot you and help you balance your body on the board.
If you don’t have a board that is wide enough to accommodate your body you can try shoving a large pile of pillows under your feet.
Other Exercises
Swimming seems to have a positive effect on breech babies; there is something about the way the mother’s body floats in the water that seems to encourage the baby to rotate. Another benefit of swimming is that it will help you relax as your prepare for the birth of your child.
Some doctors recommend that you try crawling. There is something about the way your body moves when you are crawling that seems to encourage the baby to move out of your pelvic area. Once it has moved upwards the baby has enough room to rotate.
