Bone Care Program
July 17, 2009
Ensuring that your bones are strong and healthy is imperative for those who want to avoid conditions like Osteoporosis, where bones are made brittle and the patient loses bone mass. Those who suffer from this condition are more prone to broken bones.
Women are generally more prone to developing osteoporosis than men are, although even men can develop it too. People lose more bone mass than they replace after about their 40th year.
Therefore, one should think about getting in to a program that will look after one’s bones. These programs should ensure that there are ample amounts of calcium and minerals in order to prevent bone loss.
Menopausal women in general must certainly be more aware of osteoporosis because of the lack of previous levels of estrogen means that the bones are not protected any longer.
There are many other groups of people that are more at risk. For example, smokers, heavy drinker, those who over exercise and those whose bodies are weak are all more prone to developing osteoporosis.
Others who are more prone to developing osteoporosis are asthma patients, those taking steroids, and those who have Crohn’s disease.
If you want to reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis, make sure your diet is packed with calcium, Vitamin D, silica, and magnesium. A study conducted on about 1460 women showed that those who take more calcium were less likely to develop osteoporosis.
Calcium is not the only mineral that helps bone density. Vitamin D also has a lesser known role. Some scientists say that Vitamin D inhibits a certain cell, which actually aids bone destruction whereas other scientists say that it helps to speed up calcium reactions in the body.
Other Necessary Supplements
Silicon is also necessary for bone care. Like Vitamin D, it also helps to make calcium reactions go faster while it prevents the breakdown of bone cells. Soy isoflavines greatly benefit bone care and help to prevent the onset of osteoporosis.
Those who are more prone to developing osteoporosis should certainly think about including soy beans in their diet because it has been shown to reduce the risk of contracting osteoporosis.
Magnesium is also useful. Just taking these supplements however, is not enough. One should also start a strength training program.
