Corn is one of food grains that play a significant role in human diet. Corn is grown naturally; it is covered with husk and protected by silk fibers, often known as corn silk. In general corn is typically yellow in colour but corn is also found in red, pink, blue colors also.

There are many benefits of corn as it had very good carbohydrate content, it is rich in proteins. It is high in fiber, But the best benefit of corm is that it has good amount of insoluble fiber which absorbs water, which swells the stool and helps in easy bowl movements. Corn is a rich source of many vitamins. The folic acid present in corn is very good for pregnant women as it prevents neural-tube birth defects.

Corn is helpful in curing sever kidney problems like renal dysfunction. Eating a soft boiled corn everyday can help curing major kidney problems. Corn bran is said to be a very good heart protector, if eaten everyday it can reduce cholesterol. The soluble fiber in corn binds with cholesterol in bile from the liver.
If corn starch is applied on diaper rash it gives instant relief. Other benefits of corn are that it can cure many diseases like anemia, constipation, gout. Corn juice helps in strengthening hair follicles, as it contains antioxidants like vitamin C and lycopene.These compounds helps in increasing the production of collagen. Collagen helps in maintain smooth and silky hair. Consumption of corn everyday boosts hemoglobin, as corn contains beta-carotene, which increases supply of hemoglobin.

Corn has many varieties ,one of the most popular variety is sweet corn, which is very popular know days, you can find steamed corns almost everywhere on road and in shopping malls. Sweet corn unleashes a phenolic compound called ferulic acid, which helps in fighting cancer.

Care must be taken that corn should not be consumed by people who are suffering from diabetes as; corn is high in sugar content and can increase sugar levels in blood.
