Being one of the best known and loved spices in the world, cinnamon possesses invaluable properties in context of health and nutrition. Along with being used as a favorite ingredient in dishes, cinnamon is also widely accepted and used due to its medicinal properties. The unique healthy and healing property of this spice comes from the active components in the essential oils found in its bark. Cinnamon is thus primarily known for its anti-clotting actions, anti-microbial activity, blood sugar control and boosting of brain functioning amongst others.

Cinnamon has shown great promise in its possible treatment of type 2 diabetes. It has been found that taking half teaspoon of cinnamon everyday can help significantly in the reduction of blood sugar level in diabetic people. In addition, this herbal spice offers relief from muscle and joint pain along with improving digestion of the body. Thus, it is helpful for people with stomach cramps, IBS and other common stomach disorders. In addition, eating cinnamon on a daily basis can lead to a reduction in urinary tract infections.

Cinnamon has also been found useful for women’s health as it helps in providing relief from menstrual cramping and other feminine discomfort. In addition, this herbal spice contains anti-inflammatory compounds which can be useful in reducing pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. Being an excellent source of dietary fiber, iron and calcium, cinnamon can aid in the improvement of colon health along with helping in the strengthening of the cardiovascular system thereby shielding the body from heart related disorders. Since it acts as a blood thinning agent, cinnamon helps in increasing circulation along with aiding in the overall health and wellbeing of a person. Some of the products of cinnamon are also used for aromatherapy purposes in the form of essential oil. Cinnamon is thus one of the rare herbal spices which along with being used as an important addition to food items, can also provide numerous health benefits to a person.
