Atkins Diet
The Atkins Diet is basically a diet comprising of low-carbohydrate containing foodstuff. Dr Robert C first put the diet forward in 1970’s.
Generally, people think that the Atkins Diet is a non-carbohydrate diet rich in proteins, fat and can be followed by all. So, low carbohydrates and high fat diet leads to weight loss is proposed in the Atkins’ philosophy.
But there are some apprehensions to the Atkins diet. The foremost question that raises alarm is that it ensures your long-term health or not. Secondly, are there any particular health dangers to follow the diet?
It was found by a research that persons following the Atkins diet lost around 6.8% of their body weight whereas 2.7% loss was evaluated in the followers of low-fat diet group. But when evaluated after 12 months it was found that members of both the groups had regained the weight percentage they had lost. Thus, it was concluded after the experiment that the Atkins may do better in short-term weight loss because of the reduction of body glucose levels, water and muscle protein. However, the diet had no long-term advantages as compared to other weight loss methods .It was also ineffective in the case of some participants who poorly followed the dietary recommendations.
Besides the little benefits of a low-carbohydrate diet of Atkins people who have complexity in losing weight, run the health risk by the diet. It has already been proved that the long-term carbohydrate control add to the risk of osteoporosis, risks of bone fractures, spinal failure and nerve injuries. It has been shown some benefits for cardiac vascular diseases. But again the Atkins diet with low-carbohydrate consumption restricts the eating of a variety of plants, which provide essential chemicals, such as flavonoids, carotenoids, and antioxidants. So, it is unfavorable for the heart diseases, cancer, and other ailments.The crux of the discussion is that the evidence for the Atkins diet is still trivial .
