Arsenic

Arsenic is an element, which is important in a trace quantity. It is generally used in treatments of homeopathy in case of digestive disorders such as dehydration. But this element is known to be a metallic and is highly poisonous in nature. Generally, there is an adequate intake through the diet. This is still not clearly discovered that how exactly it functions in our body. Supplementation of arsenic is generally not desirable. It can be used for the treatment of some digestive disorders but higher concentration can lead to toxicity. It can be toxic if the intake exceeds the quantity of 250 mcg in a daily dose. Most forms of the diets fulfill the requirement of around 140 mcg on daily basis. Arsenic is found to help in the metabolism of methionine.

Arsenic is natural element, which cannot be produced artificially for the body. It is present in Fish, Meats, Breads, Cereals, Starchy vegetables etc. It is also found in arsenic album and in the form of liquid or tablets.

There is a necessary caution that after 55 years of age, when there is sluggish liver as well as slow kidney function it may be retained in the body in harmful amounts.
It should not be given during pregnancy. It is also harmful for a breastfeeding woman.

The available form should be kept in a dry and cool place. It should come in direct contact with light. It should not be stored in a freezer. It should be stored in such a place, which is out of the children’s reach. Heat and humidity may transform the mineral action.

Chronic symptoms of arsenic accumulation may cause headaches, color change of nails, fit, confusion, sleepiness. Acute symptoms may be like muscle cramps, vomiting, fatigue, hair loss, dizziness, dermatitis, diarrhea and blood in urine. In such cases, the usage should be discontinued at that time. Coma and even death are likely due to toxic levels accumulation. Lungs, kidneys, liver and skin can be badly affected and damaged by toxicity.
