Is not it great to know that something you enjoy could lead to better health. Everyone is aware about the harmful effects of wine but few know its positive effects. Wine has such healthful and nutritive properties that it can prevent diseases like heart attacks, ulcers, strokes and even cancers.
Wine is like a mild tranquilizer that reduces anxiety and tension. It provides the body with energy, with substances that helps in digestion and with small amounts of minerals and vitamins. It stimulates appetite and serves to restore nutritional balance, relieve tension and act as a mild euphoric agent.
Wine contains two very essential antioxidants, resveratrol and bioflavonoid that prevent atherosclerotic disease of blood vessels. These antioxidants help in lowering the LDL (bad cholesterol) and raising HDL (good cholesterol). However, there are endless varieties of wines available but the major types are blush, fruit/country, white, sparkling, non-alcoholic and red.
Among these major types, red wine has a wide variety of health benefits. It has high levels of resveratol antioxidant which is a naturally occurring antioxidant found in the skin of black grapes. Red wine not only lowers the risk of heart attacks but also prevents additional heart attacks. It lowers the LDL Cholesterol and increase the HDL cholesterol.
Red wine reduces the risk of heart ailments by 30-40% if you consume one or two drinks a day. For women one drink a day is sufficient and for men two drinks could do. It has anti-aging property that keeps your arteries healthy and aids in boosting immune system. It also lowers the risk of kidney stone formation and prevents blood clotting.
Red wine even decreases the harmful effects of smoking on endothelium-layer of cells that provide a friction-reducing lyning in lymph vessels, blood vessels and heart. It lowers the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and helps in maintain blood pressure.
The health benefits of wine are numerous but it has both negative and positive effects. The excessive intake of wine could be harmful and can even be fatal. Excessive consumption of wine can worsen your disease. Whereas, when drunk in moderation it works just like medicine.
